Rajini Seevaratnam, OD, is a board-certified optometrist with the Washington Eye Institute. She is interested in all areas of medical optometry, including primary eye care, ocular disease medical management (glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, keratoconus, dry eye syndrome, etc.), surgical co-management, and specialty contact lenses for irregular corneas. Dr. Seevaratnam (“Dr. See”) has been with Washington Eye Institute since January 2018 and is currently welcoming new patients!
Dr. Seevaratnam earned her optometry degree (OD) at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honors Society. Her clinical experiences include ocular disease at the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System in New York, low vision at the VA West Haven Healthcare System in Connecticut, private practice at Doctors Vision Centers in North Carolina, and several primary eye care rotations in Massachusetts (Fenway Community Health, South Boston Community Health, Martha Elliot Health Center, and New England Eye Roslindale). Dr. Seevaratnam was also involved in glaucoma research at Massachusetts Eye and Ear (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27349414/).
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Seevaratnam earned her Bachelor of Science with Honors Specialization in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario), and earned her Master of Science while completing a thesis on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis at York University (Toronto, Ontario). Prior to her optometry career, Dr. Seevaratnam published numerous journal articles on gastric cancer as a scientific researcher in Canada. During her spare time, Dr. Seevaratnam enjoys traveling with her husband, Tim, and exploring the cultural hotspots of Washington, D.C.
